Day 6: Martial Law Radio Update

Image
Almost a week since an nuclear bomb detonated in the centre of London and deep inside his nuclear bunker 100 miles away, robmacca is struggling for survival. The isolation and depleting fresh food are beginning to reach critical.  Outside the bunker, looting and anarchy have taken over as civilisation adjusts to the new normal after a nuclear war. Food and water stocks have already been stolen and homes are the next target as people become more and more desperate. What is left of law and order remains on a thread as the government tries to regain control of society and coordinate supplies. But will they be too late? How much longer can robmacca survive inside the nuclear bunker before needing to go back into the nuclear destroyed world?

Day 5: Just Another Armageddon Day!

Image
While the world outside seems to have been blown away by nuclear weapons and it feels like Armageddon - humans would still seek to survive whatever came their way. It's in their nature - history tells us of many such individuals and cultures that survived against all odds. What happens when you've been locked away deep inside a nuclear bunker, cut off from the outside world? As the days pass and isolation sets in, it could be a path of self destruction - unless you are robmacca inside the #NuclearBunkerExperiment. Watch the video and discover snippets from a typical day inside the bunker.

Day 5: Freezing In The Nuclear Bunker

Image
After a nuclear bomb blast, the temperatures suddenly drop as dust clouds cover the sky, blocking the sun. Mix this with the harsh British winter weather and you are set for very cold nights - especially as gas and electric supplies ceased when London was struck in a surprise attack.  Luckily robmacca had been in the mid stage of preparing a bunker for emergencies. While there was food, water and warm clothes - there was no generator yet, not satellite services installed. This means, at times it can be colder in the underground bunker than outside in the radiation filled environment. Isolated inside a small bunker comes with many challenges during the #NuclearBunkerExperiment - but will the freezing temperatures be too much? Watch the video and see the effects of living inside the nuclear bunker......

Day 5: Anarchy Outside The Nuclear Bunker

Image
On Day 4 gunfire and shouting could be heard outside the nuclear bunker and as we enter Day 5, the question remains unanswered - did robmacca survive or was the bunker discovered with all its food content? Life is becoming risky on the outside as lack of water supplies and food quickly run out after the shock nuclear attack. Being tucked underground behind a metal door is no guarantee of safety, but it would be a safer place than on the outside, where risk of radiation remains dangerously high, even after 120 hours. How safe is robmacca inside the #NuclearBunkerExperiment ?  - watch the video to find out if he survived this latest twist. Life for those surviving the sudden nuclear bomb a 100 miles away is already becoming hell on earth as normal daily life has been replaced by anarchy and lawlessness. No electricity (except for generators), petrol stations are now empty and those left alive are forced into a battle for survival. The caring, companionate society has vanished a...

Day 4: Gunshots And Screaming

Image
A dramatic end to Day 4 inside the #NuclearBunkerExperiment as robmacca is woken up by the sound of gunfire. Anarchy has broken outside and we hear the sound of gunshots and screaming. Will the safety of the bunker end with bloodshed? How long can robmacca remain hidden underground?

Day 4: What A Pickle!

Image
As the fresh food begins to dwindle or get mouldy inside the nuclear bunker, it's time for imagination. The meal is set to become an unusual concoction, but when you are trying to survive without supermarkets in a post apocalyptic world - beggars can't be choosers!

Day 4: Energy Running Out

Image
As the hours and days go by locked away inside the nuclear bunker, slowly the power banks and batteries begin to die. While there were plenty of batteries stocked up, the first casualty of being unable to reach working electrical power points, is the spare tablet computer. The fear of losing years of memories before the nuclear war become very apparent. There is no more cloud services and the data could be lost forever.  Will all the memories from before the nuclear war vanish like the people that were killed as the bombs dropped around the world?

Day 3: Don't Forget Your Toothbrush

Image
With no running water inside the nuclear bunker and no access to the outside world, not even an electric toothbrush to help - simple things like brushing your teeth after an atomic bomb has dropped 100 miles away, becomes more difficult. Limited bottled water test must be used for more important things like drinking, results in little to no waste.  Even toothpaste won't last forever as the means of production are crushed due to the nuclear war.  Survival for the teeth may be a problem in the near future.....

Day 3: Keeping Fit Inside The Nuclear Bunker

Image
Living in a small space of 12 foot by 6 foot, doesn't leave much room for moving around once the space has become filled with a bed and food supplies for the #NuclearBunkerExperiment - it's not like you can just open the door and step outside to roam freely around. The radiation poisoning from the nuclear blast days earlier would still be very hazardous to health.  Not wanting to overdo it and eat more of the food rations nor let his body waste away through lack of movement, robmacca must find a way to balance both. Did he succeed?

Day 3: Help I Need A Poo!

Image
It's reached a critical moment inside the #NuclearBunkerExperiment - will robmacca be able to poo inside the bunker and then live with the smell or will he leave and face radiation poisoning outside the safety of the underground bunker? Not being allowed outside the 12ft by 6ft bunker brings many challenges and as the hours pass, there are certain challenges that outweighs others. It was bad enough having to urinate into a waste bin but now it is the ultimate test - being able to poo while inside the bunker without running water. What will happen?

Day 3: The Things We Take For Granted

Image
Every day we eat our food, listen to the radio, watch TV, steam music, play games and enjoy good health but a nuclear war changes all that. Life as we know it ends and those things we took for granted vanish under a cloud of poisonous radioactive dust. Think about what you did for breakfast or lunch and how many devices are included in your normal day, then think of what you would have to do if the internet suddenly vanished and all your cloud storage just disappeared. Then the reality of life after the nuclear blasts strikes home......

Day 2: Breakfast Problems In The Nuclear Bunker

Image
Remember when making breakfast was easy in the outside world? Inside the #NuclearBunkerExperiment life is far from easy, even for something as simple as breakfast. So many different factors to consider when you don't have the comforts of the kitchen or electricity. After the nuclear war, it's not like you can pop to the supermarket and stock up on fresh morning goods. Life inside the bunker will get harder as the fresh fruit is eaten and the bread becomes mouldy but robmacca, armed with a sharp knife, aims to make the most of his breakfast without causing himself an injury (there might not be any medical staff available after he resurfaces into the real world!)

Day 2: Radio Announcement In The Nuclear Bunker

Image
Apart from the lack of caffeine and hot drinks, robmacca has been missing listening to the radio. Suddenly he remembers there is a radio inside the nuclear bunker that had been put there for such a time as this. Has he got batteries though? There is no electricity working since the nuclear bomb dropped 2 days ago, it's still not safe to venture outside because of radiation but can the radio provide some sort of comfort during these dark days? Tune in and find out......

Day 2: Getting Dressed In The Nuclear Bunker

Image
Imagine having to live in a nuclear bunker with only the clothes you ran in with. Luckily for the #NuclearBunkerExperiment warm winter clothes were prepped ready and waiting for the nuclear war.  It's the beginning of the second day and after a bad night's sleep, robmacca must decide how he's going to keep warm and survive in near freezing temperatures below ground in the bunker. Get ready for a fashion show.......

Nightmares In The Nuclear Bunker

Image
Trying to sleep inside the nuclear bunker while the world burns from nuclear destruction is pretty hard. The mental images and worries flash through the brain, even while sleeping. The first night seems to be the hardest and it looks like it's going to be hard to sleep, even with the safety of an underground bunker. Then there is the issue of needing the toilet..........

Day 1: Bedtime In The Nuclear Bunker

Image
As the first day inside the Nuclear Bunker comes to a close, the panic and despair are replaced with the practical realities of sleep and warmth. But with near freezing temperatures inside the #NuclearBunkerExperiment it is sure to be a challenge.

Day 1: Taking The P***

Image
Have you ever had to hold your bladder for so long it hurts? This is what has happened to robmacca during his first night inside the nuclear bunker. We are so used to the convenience of toilets and running water but when disaster strikes we have to find alternative means to go.  Normally the alternative is to go outside or dig a hole outside but there is no cesspit inside the bunker and the moment has come when it's got to the point of bursting. Find out what happens next ......

Day 1: Panic Sets In

Image
Although safe inside the nuclear bunker, safe from the radiation falling outside after a 100mt nuclear bomb dropped in the centre of London - the harsh reality of the disaster strikes home. Soon despair, guilt and panic take control, leaving robmacca to feel hopeless and helpless. These feelings will hinder hopes of survival if they set in. Can he overcome the feelings in order to survive or will those feelings become his downfall? This video from the early hours inside the #nuclearbunkerexperiment reveals just what it is like to be locked away from the world........

Day 1: Food For Thought

Image
The reality of life and survival inside the bunker, safe from the fall out from the exploded nuclear bomb, hit home. Questions arise and emotions are still raw since the world changed just hours ago. The mind turns to living though the most dangerous days of high radiation and concentrating on survival. Prepping before hand has come in handy, even grabbing food during the final minutes on the outside have helped. Watch and discover the first food eaten inside the bunker......

Lights, I Need Lights!

Image
Darkness fills the bunker as the electricity cuts out when a nuclear bomb detonates. Panic and shock quickly sets in, until the realisation that lights are needed.  Without electricity, it's going to be hard to light up the bunker. The preparation over the previous weeks will now become a practical reality. Find out what lighting will help towards survival inside the Nuclear Bunker.......

Its The End Of The World!

Image
"This is it, this is the end of the world as we know it," is a line bellowing out in the video in the final minutes before a nuclear bomb strikes 100 miles away at the heart of London, England. What started out as a friend's video calling would soon escalate into the onset of World War 3 as world leaders take swift action. The countdown is on, will there be enough time to make it to the bunker? Watch the video as The Nuclear Bunker Experiment begins......

Bunker View

Image
The bunker is slowly taking shape but still has a long way to go to becoming a livable bunker in emergencies. While it may look spacious in the picture, the chair is on the bed and the bunker could do with proper shelving. Out of view is the supplies of good and drink in the event of an emergency. With electricity, it would be an ideal home with heat, cooking facilities and the comforts we enjoy daily. Without electric, it could be grim and quite unbearable in the winter months.......

Don't Accidentally Poison Yourself!

Image
Living in a bunker to escape disasters could still end up with accidental death if you don't have proper ventilation installed (especially during a nuclear war). We still have to breathe but that means carbon monoxide could become dangerously high within a confined, unventilated space. One simple action that could save your life, would be fitting a battery operated carbon monoxide alarm. At least then you could become aware of the dangers before they become potentially fatal. The alarm would also detect carbon monoxide from gas cooking appliances, thus warning you of any danger and allowing you to find a solution.

Water And Toilet Issues In An Emergency

Image
Hygiene while trying to survive inside a bunker is of paramount importance - especially since clean running water and toilet facilities will not be available if a nuclear emergency took place. According to the book Nuclear War Survival Skills , "water-borne diseases probably would kill more survivors of a nuclear attack than would fallout- contaminated water." Therefore the storage of clean fallout free water would be life saving. Bottled water can be purchased cheaply and stored for quite a long time. Care should be taken once opened or using alternative means of water storage.  We all need to go to the toilet and take it for granted how easily waste products are removed from our homes each time we need to use the toilet - but imagine if the power supplies vanish and flushing no longer works. Added to this, imagine you are trying to survive underground in a bunker without running water or proper toilet facilities...... the smells, the germs and the danger to health are all...

Danger Alert Inside The Bunker!

Image
When you are prepping for a disaster, there will always be other problems that come along the way. The nuclear bunker is meant to be a safe place from war, but you also want to be safe inside from health risks. The discovery of mould in one corner of the wooden roof required urgent action.   Imagine if there is were a leak in the roof and radioactive water enters the bunker, this would be disastrous for anybody inside trying to live and survive during a nuclear war. The word inside the bunker is untreated so applying bleach sprays would damage the wood. Thankfully there are alternatives we can use and this video highlights this.  Being locked away inside the bunker for an unspecified time with mould could be very hazardous for breathing. That is why urgent action was needed. Any leaks or breaches to the exterior of the nuclear bunker would have to be repaired before a disaster struck, because any exposure to radiation could result in serious heal...

Portaloo, How Does It Feel You Won The Nuclear War?!

Image
Being prepared for the worst disasters is half the battle, having somewhere to go to the toilet while trying to survive inside a nuclear bunker would be another battle! I've splashed out (no pun) on a 20 litre portable toilet, because if a disaster struck, I'd want to be able to do a number 2 with as much dignity as possible. No running water or electricity would mean taps, toilets and essential appliances may cease to work. Outdoors it would be less of a problem as we would easily find places to go but locked away deep inside a bunker with limited space adds new problems. The portaloo is a good investment for the bunker and can be used for camping holidays or handy as a bedside toilet in old age!

Dehumidifier Prepping

Image
If you are locked away inside a bunker during an emergency, you can be pretty sure it is going to get wet and moist inside. After all, we still have to breathe (thankfully) and do our best to survive whatever circumstances come out way! Dehumidifier pad sets will be ideal for soaking up all that moisture and hopefully keep the inside of the bunker safe from mould and moisture.  If a nuclear blast meant being locked away for days on end, the pads would at least help. Added to this week's shopping buys, I've added more nuts for the protein value and beetroot just because I'd miss eating all the vegetables I normally eat each week

Empty Bottles

Image
Imagine if the taps stopped working and the water supply suddenly ended. It's a scary thought that we all hope would never happen. If a war or nuclear attack were to take place, the water supplies could be affected and we would need to find other water sources if we wanted to survive. My friend has been saving his empty plastic bottles, which will come on handy inside the bunker for washing and cleaning. I will be buying bottled water over the coming days solely for drinking if an emergency arose. The "Rule Of 3" says that a person can live 3 minutes without air (oxygen), 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food."

Bunker Preperation

Image
Spent the day finally sorting the bunker out - I had been using the space to store junk and other items instead of prepping for emergencies. If a disaster had occurred, I was definitely not ready. Thankfully every shopping trip meant I could slowly stock up on food, cleaning items and essentials for an emergency. The bed linen has been changed and the portaloo prepared with chemicals. The lack of space would be a problem and I've got a feeling it would be a challenge mentally. Hopefully any emergency situation would still mean there is electricity, otherwise it's cold food, drinks and no electronic luxuries!

Shopping Essentials For The Bunker

Image
This weeks #NuclearBunker shopping essentials to help with survival in an emergency are highlighted in the video, with one or two items making life easier if we did face a disaster. I'm only just starting out on my #prepping journey and would love to read your comments, tips, ideas or questions around the subject - feel free to leave a comment here or on The Nuclear Bunker Experiment YouTube channel.

Prepare For The Cold, Hope For Warmth!

Image
I was putting supplies into the bunker yesterday and checked on the thermometer since I put a new battery inside. It was actually colder inside the bunker at 11:30 am (1.2°C) than outside (3.6°C)! Life inside the bunker would be so hard at almost freezing temperatures but it would be worth it if surviving was the end goal. If a nuclear war broke out in Winter, we would need to be fully prepared with clothes, blankets and suitable food inside the bunker. Extremes in weather can also be a killer - so better to be prepped than caught out unawares. Would you be ready if an emergency arose?

What Clothes Are Needed For The Bunker?

Image
Having the right clothes for survival in an emergency can be life or death - especially for The Nuclear Bunker Experiment . Find out what type of clothes will be making it into the bunker in the video below. There are proper items that would be needed like masks and hamza suits in the event of chemical or biological warfare, but in this instance we are looking at the type of clothes that will be useful in an emergency during winter.

How Safe Would A Nuclear Power Plant Be If A Nuclear Bomb Dropped?

Image
We live in very uncertain times as conflicts and wars rage around the world. The threat of nuclear war grows by the day as more nations develop nuclear weapons. In my scenario, I asked AI "if a nuclear bomb detonated in the centre of London, how safe would nearby nuclear power plants be?" The answer was quite alarming, especially since the nearest power plant to London is Hinckley power plant based in Somerset. Watch the 2 minute video below for the full explanation. The UK is home to eight nuclear power plants and they play an important part in supplying around 15% of energy needed to keep the United Kingdom running day to day. While nuclear energy is controlled safely, the threat of nuclear war raises important questions around what would happen if a weapon of mass destruction ever occurred. The results would indeed be catastrophic and add to the difficulty of surviving a nuclear attack - thankfully, survival is still possible and preperations can help aid that survival if ...

My Survival Kit

Image
In order to survive something like a nuclear blast, you really need to prepare beforehand (and be incredibly lucky to be in the right place at the right time!). Here inside my bunker, I am preparing for a 'just in case' scenario. This video highlights some of the things I am including for my emergency bunker. There are many other items I've not yet purchased but I'm hoping to be ready before that dreadful day. Let me know if you can think of any items I need to include to take inside the bunker and don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel for more updates.

VIDEO: The Nuclear Bunker Experiment Explained In One Minute

Image
This one minute video explains what The Nuclear Bunker Experiment will involve.

The Nuclear Bunker Experiment Explained

Image
The Nuclear Bunker Experiment is an endurance exercise by robmacca. The plan is to survive inside a bunker as though a nuclear bomb has detonated. A 100,000 megaton nuke 'detonates' in London, England causing six million deaths and another six million people suffering from injuries. The capital city burns and most communications are destroyed in the fireball. Meanwhile, robmacca is 100 miles away and safe from thermal radiation but is unaware of the details. When the sirens sound, warning of the impending doom - the population will have just a few minutes to take cover underground, in bunkers or a safe place indoors.  Energy and communication supplies are disrupted, the population are in chaos and emergency services overwhelmed. What follows is rioting, looting and the complete breakdown of civil order. The Nuclear Bunker Experiment will be a test of endurance as robmacca will be locked inside - unable to venture outdoors at any point. There will be no heating and no cook...
